Women's Hormone Therapy in South County St. Louis
"My labs came back normal, but I don't feel normal." We often hear that from women in South St. Louis County. Often the tests were a basic screen that didn't look at the hormones that shift during perimenopause and menopause. At Summit's Sappington office, women's hormone therapy starts with a much wider panel and a real conversation about how you've been feeling.
Is it hormones?
It might be, and it might not be. The symptoms women describe to us are real, but they overlap with thyroid issues, iron and vitamin D levels, blood sugar, sleep and stress. Common ones include hot flashes, night sweats, broken sleep, mood swings, anxiety, brain fog, low libido, vaginal dryness, irregular periods, fatigue, hair thinning and weight gain around the midsection. Our job is to sort out which factors are in play before anyone talks about treatment. Sometimes more than one is involved, which is another reason the whole panel is reviewed together.
What we look at
Your women's panel is drawn at a LabCorp site near you. It includes estradiol, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA, LH, FSH and prolactin, and it also covers thyroid markers (TSH and T4), A1c, a CBC, a comprehensive metabolic panel, lipids, vitamin D, iron, ferritin and folate. That fuller picture is why the first review takes time.
What treatment can involve
If your results and symptoms point to a hormone imbalance and treatment is appropriate, your licensed provider builds an individualized plan. It may include estrogen, progesterone and, when appropriate, testosterone. Women naturally produce testosterone, so it's one of the three hormones we evaluate. Bioidentical options are available. Medication and supplies ship to your home.
What follow-up looks like
Hormone needs change, especially through perimenopause. Your provider rechecks labs, asks how you're doing and adjusts your plan over time. Between visits, your care team is a message away. Follow-ups can happen at the office or by telehealth, whichever works for your week.

Frequently asked questions
Can I start hormone therapy if I'm still having periods?
Irregular periods are one of the signs women bring to us, and Summit sees women in perimenopause as well as menopause. Whether hormone therapy is appropriate for you depends on your labs, symptoms and health history, which your provider reviews with you.
Do women use testosterone too?
Women naturally produce testosterone, so it's one of the three hormones we evaluate, along with estrogen and progesterone. Your provider will discuss whether testosterone belongs in your plan based on your labs and symptoms.
Do I have to come to Ronnie's Plaza for every visit?
No. You can see your provider at the Sappington office or by telehealth, and many follow-ups can be done virtually. Medication and supplies ship to your home.
